It's a new week, and though it's not Tuesday I won't deprive you of your legal drama.
In this week’s legal drama, the Okoro family practically marched into court like they were out to oppress the singles.🥲
But thank God for Justice Ukam, who quickly defused the tension. So yes — your Legal Dramatist still has her heart intact.
Now you’re probably wondering: What exactly brought them to court?
Well, Mrs. Okoro came to enforce a contract… against her husband.
Yes, you read that right
🥲
The "contract"?
Alright, he promised to give her ten thousand dollars, for each month she remained in the hospital, till she was healthy enough to come home. She insisted he pay her at hospital, but he promised to pay the first $10,000 and pay the rest of the money on her return.
She stayed in the hospital for five months, and was paid the $10,000 once out of the five Months. And on reaching home, she requested the money, but he had hugged her, kissed her forehead, thanked God for her life and chuckled.
"Nne, you take everything so serious ooo, let's be glad that you are alive, you know there'll always be money."
But Madam was not smiling, She Sued.
However, Justice Ukam is quick to inform the court, that their contract lacked intention to create legal relations as established in Balfour v. Balfour;that she might as well be seeking drama to entertain herself but the courts time is sacred.
In the words of Atkin LJ;
"Those agreements, do not result in contracts at all... even though there may be what as between other parties would constitute consideration for the agreement...They are not contract...”
Counsel for the husband simply smiled and said:
“My Lord, it appears my client’s only offence was loving his wife too generously — or perhaps too verbally.”
It would surprise you to know, they left the Courtroom hand in hand, grinning from ear to ear, as though they're are newly weds.
(Justice Ukam was definitely right, they only sought to create drama😮💨🥲)
But I do think we need such once in a while, but not too much -as it may suffocate those yet to find their soulmates and yet are broke😓🥲🥹

See you on Tuesday!
